Jair Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities found he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under house arrest.

The one-time leader was convicted of plotting a military coup in September and given more than 27 years in incarceration, but he continued under confinement pending court reviews.

High Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes said the action to imprison the 70-year-old politician was a safety action after "new facts" came to light.

This included seeking to disable his ankle monitor and a call for a public vigil that could enable a potential flight.

Judicial Records Show Flight Fears
